Kibble tends to be full of preservatives and grain additives such as rice, wheat and corn which compromise about 50% of processed cat foods and are used simply to hold the food together. Cats are obligate carnivores and although carbohydrates can be used as a source of metabolic energy, they have a limited capacity for carbohydrate digestion.

Here at Poochie Moochie Edmonton we exclusively sell raw because we believe that natural fresh foods can significantly decrease and assist in a lot of major diseases such as IBD, Pancreatitis, kidney disease, cancer etc. 

Feeding raw isn't always an option for everyone and that's okay! There are still way's to provide your dog or cat with extra nutrition that will help them thrive!

Raw food especially turkey, chicken and duck is the easiest form of meat to digest because the kidney doesn't have to work as hard to digest as it does with kibble...kibble provides your dog with little to no hydration. Raw food can contain up to 70% moisture which ensures your pet is staying hydrated and in turn helps the kidneys function properly.

There are a few causes of diabetes which include:

• Breed predisposition 
• Being inactive
• Lack of Omega 3 oils
• Chronic inflammation stemming from diseases such as IBD, pancreatitis, or skin allergies
• Use of medications such as steroids long term
• Diets high in carbohydrates

Most of the reasons above can be linked to a kibble fed diet....we know that kibble is more high in carbohydrates compared to a raw diet. Diabetes is characterized by having too much sugar in the bloodstream. Carbohydrates create sugar (glucose.) Dogs are more than capable of producing all the glucose that their body needs without any dietary carbs whatsoever.

The microbiome is found internally and externally. It modulate's the immune system which is being constantly exposed to bad things. The microbiome can be disrupted by a number of factors including prolonged periods of stress, large amounts of starch in a dogs diet, processed foods, infections, radiation, use of antibiotics or other drugs. Immune experts believe that dysbiosis and leaky gut can be the cause of nearly all auto immune diseases such as, skin diseases, joints, heart, eyes or brain, IBD, collapsing trachea, liver, kidney and pancreatic disorders! What are some things you can add to your pet's diet to prevent or treat leaky gut?
